Socio-Emotional Learning
Socio-Emotional Learning is the teaching of Emotional Intelligence. Emotional intelligence is a person’s ability to identify emotions in themselves and others, to recognize the powerful effects of those emotions, and to use that information to inform and guide behavior.

The ability to understand one’s own emotions, thoughts, values, and goals, as well as how these are all connected and influence behavior. This also includes the ability to assess one’s own strengths and limitations with a well-grounded sense of optimism and confidence. -

The ability to regulate one’s thoughts, emotions, and behavior. This includes managing stress, setting goals, and controlling impulses. -
Responsible Decision Making
The ability to make constructive choices about one’s personal behavior and social interactions. The individual takes into account ethical standards and safety concerns, and is able to make a realistic evaluation about the consequence of various actions. -
Social Awareness
The ability to understand, empathize, and be compassionate towards individuals from different backgrounds and cultures. It also includes the ability to understand social norms, as well as recognizing family, school, and community resources and supports. -
Relationship Skills
The ability to establish and maintain healthy relationships with a variety of individuals and groups. This skill set includes communicating clearly, listening, cooperating, resisting negative social pressure, and seeking and offering help when needed.
